Dr. Murphy started a solo practice in Dublin in 1982 when Dublin was still a village. At that time, there was only one other optometrist in the area. In her thirty years in Dublin, the practice has grown along with the city. She purchased our current building in 2006 to accommodate our expanding patient base. The practice name changed to Emerald EyeCare and now employs three optometrists.
She has taught optometric technician classes at Columbus State Community College for five years and currently employs and trains a number of pre-optometry students for the practice.
Remaining active in the community is important to Dr. Murphy. For many years she and the staff have helped the school nurses administer vision screenings to area 7th and 9th graders. She has also offered scholarships to graduating seniors of the Dublin public schools. For many years, Dr. Murphy and Chris, our frame stylist, have volunteered at the week long Memorial Tournament. They are now experts at making hoagie sandwiches!
Dr. Murphy is a graduate of Miami University and has her doctorate from The Ohio State University. She is an avid golfer and fan of Jack Nicklaus.
Dr. Susan Wright has been working with Dr. Murphy since 1998. Dr. Wright’s genuine style is evident to all of her patients. She genuinely feels that every patient is part of the Emerald EyeCare family.
Dr. Wright especially enjoys working with children. During their eye exam, she utilizes models of the eye to show what is happening and why they may need vision correction. For the curious kids, she will allow them to look through a slit lamp/microscope at a sibling’s or parent’s eye to learn more about how the eye works.
The real reward for Dr. Wright is seeing those who need correction, see clearly for the first time with their new pair of glasses. “It’s like opening a new world to them with clear vision,” she says. Sometimes you don’t know what you have been missing until you are shown how much better your vision can be!
Dr. Wright is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, and has her doctorate from The Ohio State University.
